Dear Neighbors - The 2014 Session is underway and in the last year Minnesota has made a lot of progress. Last year, we enacted significant investments in education, including all-day kindergarten, an expansion of early childhood scholarships, and a college tuition freeze. The budget also included major investments in job creation initiatives and as a result, our economy is gaining steam.
Minnesota gained 45,900 jobs last year and the state's 4.6 percent unemployment rate is well below the national rate of 6.7 percent. Our economy is clearly on the right track and growing, but we know we have more work to do. We know there are those who still aren't experiencing the economic recovery and we need to do more - including a strong bonding bill and raise in the minimum wage during the 2014 Session.
During my time in the House, I've also focused on Minnesota's beautiful outdoors and environmental issues. As a state, we face significant environmental challenges in the years ahead. From Aquatic Invasive Species threatening our waterways and fishing to water supply and monitoring issues threatening our clean water, to threats to pollinators, we have a lot of work to do.
We're moving Minnesota forward, making progress, and laying the foundation for a brighter future. It's an honor to serve you in the Minnesota House and I hope to be able to continue working for the people of District 52A.
